The Ford F-150 Has a Body Double in China

If you were going to start your own car company, would you start from scratch and build something that nobody's ever seen before? Or, would you take something that's already well-respected and put your own nameplate on it? Believe it or not, one company in China is taking the latter approach, and has slapped their badge on a vehicle that looks remarkably likes the Ford F-150.
First of all, we have to say that if you were to build your own vehicle, you'd probably land yourself in court by doing something like that. And, for the most part, automakers like to have their own niche in the market. It simply doesn't make sense to produce something that already exists.
Second of all, we want to emphasize that the truck, built by Jianghaui Auto Corporation (JAC), might look an awful lot like the F-150, but it is most definitely not an F-150. The 4R3 features the familiar rectangular grille, L-shaped headlamp housing and even the hood creases and tailgate seem to have been taken right from an F-150. However, under the hood, it's gets a little interesting.
The JAC 4R3 is powered by a 2.8-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine, rated at 108 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. That simply doesn't hold a candle to the 3.7-liter V6 rated at 302 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque available in the XL, STX, and XLT trim levels.
Don't worry, you won't find this truck at Finish Line Ford anytime soon. But, if you make a trip to China anytime soon, you might do a double-take if you see a 4R3 on the street. And remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
