Winter Weather Checklist for Peoria Residents - Winterize Your Ford at our Service Department 

Don't be fooled by how mild this year's Central Illinois winter has been so far... Make sure your car truck or SUV is fully prepared for when the snow finally hits the ground. While safety is important all year long, there are specific safety checks to do before the harsh weather finds us. The team here at our Green Finish Line Ford Service Department in Peoria, IL is here with information to guide you in having a safe winter.

Auto Maintenance Checklist

-Make sure your tires are in good condition, the tire pressure is correct, and that the spare tire & it's equipment is ready in case of emergency. If you're not sure about the condition or tire pressure, ask one of Green Finish Line Ford's Service Managers. They'd be happy to give your tires a FREE INSPECTION.

-Inspect your brakes. Make sure they'll be able to get you through the entire winter season.

-Check your antifreeze and all other fluids to make sure they're filled up.

-Have the battery serviced (clean the battery posts, tested for its ability to hold a charge). If it's more than 4.5 years old, replace it. Battery tests can be done at Green's Finish Line Ford Service Department.

-Inspect your spark plugs. Cracked up plug wires affect performance, gas mileage, and general reliability. Make sure they are in top shape.

-Don't put off that 30,000 mile full service if your car is due. At the very least, make sure your oil has been changed regularly.

-Replace the windshield wiper blades and fill up the wiper fluid. Don't replace with water, water will freeze in the lines.

-Check the lights, heater, and defroster.

-Keep the gas tank as full as possible to prevent moisture from freezing in the gas lines. In case you get stuck in a storm, start the car and run it for only ten minutes of every hour to keep the car warm enough yet safe from poisoning.

- Emergency First Aid Kit

-Flares/reflectors

-Non-perishable snacks like granola bars, peanuts, and dried fruits

-Sand or cat litter for traction

-De-icer spray for frozen locks or to loosen lug nuts to fix a flat tire

-Cellular phone and charger

-Ice scraper and snow shovel

-Jumper cables

-Flashlight with extra batteries or a wind ip flashlight/radio combination

-A map

-Extra clothes, blankets, a hat (experts say up to 40% of your body heat can be lost through the head), gloves, boots, & large plastic bags for warmth
